Remember our blog post about our 2020 Michigan Bucket List? Today, we are talking about #2 on the list: visiting Kitch-iti-kipi! This is the most beautiful natural spring in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! If you have kids, they will love to go across the spring on the glass bottomed boat, looking at all the fish!
Kitch-iti-kipi is 200 feet across and 40 feet deep! Interestingly enough, the spring never freezes, because it remains at 45 degrees all year long, no matter what the air temperature is! There is a glass bottom raft that sits on top of the spring which takes visitors back and forth across the spring to see the fish! The colors of the spring, as shown in the pictures, are a beautiful emerald green. For more information on the history of Kitch-iti-kipi, we found this website helpful!
Kitch-iti-kipi is located North West of downtown Manistique, off of US-2. When traveling in the Upper Peninsula, remember to have your maps loaded before you run out of cell phone service, as towers are less frequent up there!
If you haven’t been there, mark it on your list to visit - it is beautiful to visit in any season! Our staff members went out last summer to see it, but these two shots from Instagram have us wanting to pack our bags and go see it in the beautiful snow!
